Waveney Hygiene Bank
Right now, we're all being hit by energy cost hikes, food inflation, and of course the endless consequences of Covid-19.
No one is immune. We all feel it. We know that those of us on low incomes do more than just feel it – it hurts us. And it's not just the obvious things like food and warmth.
See our new Hygiene Bank Map
Hygiene poverty is not being able to afford many of the everyday hygiene and personal grooming products many of us take for granted. The reality of low income is that it restricts our options, leaving us caught between being able to heat our homes, pay the rent, eat or be clean.
Hygiene Bank is about filling that gap.
There are donation points at Big Tesco's (Leisure Way), Morrisson's North Quay, Beccles Tesco, Beccles Morrisson's, Beccles Boots, Lowestoft Boots, Gapton Hall Boots. Coming soon, we hope, Co-operative Central, Ashburnham Way Lowestoft.
Right now, there's a special need for:
shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, loo roll, laundry detergent, household cleaners, baby wipes, nappies (in particular sizes 5 & 6) , washing up liquids, and laundry detergent.
Donations are collected, sorted, then re-distributed to local foodbanks, schools, community groups – wherever we have been asked, wherever we can. Waveney Hygiene Bank is run by volunteers. They collect donations, store and sort it, and deliver or arrange collection.
Over 14 million people in the UK live in poverty - that is one fifth of our population. (source: Social Metrics Commission)
